Bus history

From horses to horse power. The bus has always been the obvious choice for communal transportation. Today, a bus can take you nearly anywhere in the world.

People have always been in need of transportation. In the beginning, horses and carriages were used for private use, and later this developed into a form of taxi service in the big cities. In the 1600's roads were being built in Sweden, which made more organized transportation possible. The horses remained, pulling a normal wagon at first, and later a stage coach. Generally, transportation was developing to fit more passengers at the time. Horse-drawn passenger coaches were only available in the largest cities.

The first engine-run bus

The first engine-run buses appeared on the scene in 1899. Since then the development has gone very fast. The old form of transportation by horse was bumpy, slow and uncomfortable. Today's buses are quite the opposite. The average modern bus seats 50 passengers. Today, buses move quietly and smoothly, and the seats are comfortable. Still, the best thing about buses is that they can take you anywhere – provided the infrastructure is in place! When traveling by bus, you can enjoy the scenery on the way to your destination.
